Why I Love Romantic Fiction

Why Humans Are Wired For Story

I love a good story, don’t you? All humans are drawn to patterns especially through narrative. It helps us make sense of the world, to “find our place” so to speak. Stories give us the ability to deeply connect with other people through common experience.

Why Women Love Romance

Women are particularly attracted to romance because it meets an emotional and psychological need that is often overlooked and disregarded by society. The longing to be unconditionally loved and to connect with a partner who is strong, yet gentle, is the heart’s desire of every reader of romantic fiction.

My Personal Romance Story

While I understand that romantic fiction idealizes relationships, because I have personally lived such a wonderful romance, I am able to write masculine heroes that exhibit traits of gentleness, kindness and empathy while at the same time showing strength and leadership. My heroes are all based on the man I married over forty years ago.

Meeting our senior year of college, we married the December following graduation. After a whirlwind romance, my husband and I traveled the world while he flew helicopters for the United States Air Force. With one son born in Germany and the other in South Alabama, we got out of the military and moved home to Virginia. Five years ago, we began an exciting new chapter in our lives by moving to the great American West.

The Romance of Life

Romance makes life worth living. Not just the romance we might find with a partner, but the romance of life encapsulated in memory and experience. My books are filled with characters who overcome in order to find the way to their heart’s true home by embracing the beauty and mystery of love and of life.

Where My Writing is Today

Though I have been writing for many years, I was recently signed with The Steve Laube Literary Agency. Tamela Hancock Murray, my agent, is in the process of presenting my books to a publisher. We will have to await their release while my agent navigates the complicated world of publishing. I hope you will sign up for my newsletter to receive future announcements and free romantic fiction stories as they become available.
